Keyboard tests

Check every key, find ghosting and chatter, and see how fast your fingers really are.

Keyboard checks

What these keyboard tests check

The keyboard tester shows a full-size keyboard on screen. Press a key and it lights up; release it and it stays marked, so after one pass you know exactly which keys work. It also counts how many keys your keyboard reports at the same time, which tells you whether you have n-key rollover or run into ghosting in the combinations you use for gaming.

Worn mechanical switches sometimes “chatter” and type a letter twice. The tester catches presses that arrive just milliseconds after the same key was released and marks those keys in red, which is a quick way to find the switch that needs cleaning or replacing.

The spacebar counter turns your keyboard into a speed test. Hit space as fast as you can for one to a hundred seconds and compare your presses per second with your personal best. Held keys and automatic repeats are ignored, so only real presses count.

Frequently asked questions

Do the keyboard tests work on a laptop?

Yes. Built-in laptop keyboards work exactly like external ones. Only the Fn key cannot be tested, because it never leaves the keyboard.

Can I test a keyboard on a phone or tablet?

Yes, if you connect a physical keyboard over Bluetooth or USB. On-screen keyboards do not send the same key events, so they cannot be tested.

Is it safe to type on these pages?

Yes. The tests only react to which keys are pressed while the page is open. Nothing you press is stored or sent anywhere.
